Brockman’s Press For Gin Pop-Up Bar

Brockman’s Press For Gin Pop-Up Bar

#PRESSFORGIN

#pressforgin, what a fab concept! An event where you literally press a button and you are rewarded with gin. This time last week I sat at work so excited to be attending the Brockman’s ‘Press for Gin’ event. In my excitement I had already wrote my blog post… so here it is, review to come soon:

I am SO excited to be attending the #pressforgin pop up bar event this evening at the Monastery in Manchester. The event is exactly as it says, you literally ‘press for gin’ and a cocktail appears in your hand. In addition to this they will also be serving small plates inspired by the botanical’s in Brockman’s gin, oh and live entertainment too! Gin, food and entertainment, I’m gonna be one happy lady tonight!

Ever since I have found out about this event I have been endlessly googling what the evening has in store. I can safely say I am super excited! This looks like one sultry and very sassy evening!

SULTRY, SASSY AND VERY SEXY

Now I don’t know what to expect tonight but from previous events there have been, lacy masquerade masks, contortionists dangling from opulent chandeliers, handcuffs accompanying cocktails, fire eaters donned in racy leather outfits and the most mouth-watering gin inspired dishes, and of course fantastic gin-based cocktails. This is going to be an incredible evening.

GIN-INFUSED CANAPES

As I am super nosey and constantly thinking about food, I did a bit of digging around to see what I can expect. I have it on good territory from Miss Pond‘s blog that previous events have seen a variety of delicious morsels of gin infused dishes. Such as; Foie gras and chicken presse served with a blackberry and gin chutney,  liquourice gin cured salmon a beetroot panier served with gin and tonic gel, blini with smashed avocado and yuzu caviar and lets not forget dessert, how about liquid nitrogen ice cream and sorbet, smoking meringues and orange gin jelly shots. As for the cocktails, one in particular that grabbed my attention was a deliciously sweet concoction of gin, ginger liquor, vanilla vodka and cherry liquor. That sounds sooooo yummy!

THE BOTTLE STOP

However, me being me couldn’t wait until this evening to try this deliciously wicked tipple. So as soon as 5:00 p.m. struck on  Monday, we promptly logged off and dashed to every supermarket in the vicinity in search of Brockman’s gin (I know, I know, it’s only Monday and I’m already wanting the gin, however this was all in the name of ‘market research’ of course) …

With not much luck in sourcing this mysterious drink we resorted to our trusty (and fabulous) local shop the ‘Bottle Stop’ in Stockport and there you have it, in pride of place a bottle of shiny black gothic looking gin. Fantastic!

A PROPER GIN COCKTAIL

Eager to try this we dashed home only to realise we do not have gin glasses nor the recommended garnishes as listed in the suggested recipe on the bottle… Back out to the shops we went. If we were going to try this we were going to do it properly! So half an hour later, massive glass in hand, plenty of blueberries, huge chunks of ice, a few spirals of aromatic grapefruit peel and ice cold tonic and a big glug of Brockman’s gin and we are good.

When I say good I mean we are GREAT. This gin is something else. In fact it’s gincredible (sorry, couldn’t resist!)

I can honestly say that this is a new favourite of ours. Dean and myself are not huge gin drinkers, rum is our tipple. That’s not to say I don’t enjoy trying new gins. The gin market now is vast, I just love what they are doing now with all of the botanical’s, there’s such a variety on the market. My recent favourites have been nettle gin and rhubarb gin, seriously delicious. I guess for me in the past I have found gin to be too harsh… Until now. Brockman’s describes itself as intensely smooth with dark fruit.

How right they are…

THE TASTE TEST

Instantly on the nose you get a hit of fruity dark berry aromas, blueberries and blackberries for sure. The taste is so smooth yet it still packs a fruity punch and then the mellow warming sensation as it glides down your throat. Just Perfect.

THE BOTANICAL’S

The smooth sensuous flavour of this gin really intrigues me so I did a little research on Brockman’s recipe. Just as I described the gin is has aromatic wild berries aromas running through it provided by  fruity blueberries and blackberries and also Bulgarian coriander. This adds a spiciness to smooth, mellow gin and provides a long finish with hints of citrus and a hint of peppery ginger. Further complexities are provided by aromatic oils of bitter sweet Valencian orange peel and Tuscan juniper berries. These flavours combined with slow distilling process using copper still creates a very sophisticated drink indeed.

WATCH THIS SPACE

This is definitely a winner for me. I can’t wait to try the delicious dishes on offer this evening. One thing for sure is that I will definitely be experimenting with Brockman’s gin recipes. I have a few lined up. I can’t wait to share them with you! So until this evening I await in anticipation, this is going to be one very but watch this space for a review of the #pressforgin event!
