About me

About me

Welcome to the food blog Seasoned Scribbles.

I’m Lynsey, a self-confessed, utterly obsessed foodie! Together with my Husband Dean we love to explore the world of food and photography and this is our little corner of the internet that we get to share what we love with you guys.

What you will find on this blog:

Recipes, ramblings and tales of travel!

We are both self-taught cooks with no formal training, we’ve learnt from our parents, friends and me personally, tonnes of re-runs of Rick Steins food shows (plus many more!), I just cannot get enough of learning about food.

More about us:

Currently, we both work in corporate roles, by trade I’m a scientist and Dean Regulatory but our passion is undeniably food, eating it, talking about it, learning about it, even growing it, you name it our world revolves around food.

We moved a few years ago from the bustling village of Didsbury in South Manchester with an incredible food and drink scene to a small village in Cheshire (with an equally fantastic, yet different food and drinks scene). Here, we are surrounded by fields growing all types of seasonal produce. It’s so wonderful watching the field and trees bloom over the seasons, offering up delicious produce such as buttery new Cheshire potatoes, rows of golden corn growing in their husks, and sweet orchard fruit, ripe and juicy begging to be devoured. Field after field full of food interspersed with a country pub or two along the way, it’s a lovely place to be…. and we can still get back to Manchester when we need a crazy night out too or a date night at the newest hotspot in town… or to see Oasis (yes we got tickets!).

I am, let’s just say the ‘spontaneous’ one of us. when it comes to food. I will be sat at work on a Tuesday and suddenly decide I want to create a croque en bouche that very evening along with tens of other ideas that have slipped into my head that day…. knowing full well I do not have the ingredients nor any working scales and often not the time, but somehow I always find a way.

Dean on the other hand is extremely organised, pragamatic… and lets say more patient than I. For these reasons he’s an excellent baker and cook (when he gets chance to get in the kitchen! The kitchen is my down time and I do hog it!). But differences apart we compliment each other, it works. I get to explore new and old recipes and writing about all things foodie that I love, whilst Dean focuses on his newly found passion of photography and editing, he really does have an eye for a great photo.

So if you have stuck with me this far you will realise I’m a girl who can get genuinely excited over the weekly food shop, perusing the supermarket aisles and scouring the farmers markets for new ideas and exciting produce. I’m the one that will spend literally hours or days to make the perfect meal whether that is a decadent seven course celebratory meal or just a humble soup, taking time out to cook and dine with friends and family is one of my all-time favourite things to do. I’m absolutely in my element when I’m cooking away in my kitchen, be it recreating classic dishes, getting creative or maybe just whipping up some good old comfort food.

Needless to say when I‘m not in my kitchen you’ll find me eating out and about, everywhere from nostalgic haunts, cosy cafes, bustling bistros or the latest trendy new restaurant town, I love it all. I’m on a mission to try as many foods as possible from the weird and wonderful to the exotic, decedent and luxurious… and everything in between. You’ll find that I really will try ANYTHING. If I’m not eating food or cooking food you’ll certainly find me reading and writing about food, so many hours I have scribbled away in my journal conjuring up my next new dish to try or planning my next culinary journey to neighbouring cities or across the seas! I love nothing more than to explore new exciting culinary escapades that are occurring and it’s here on my blog I hope to share my recipes and finds along the way.

So close the door, grab yourself a drink, put your feet up and shut off from the world for a while and join us on our culinary adventure, there’s so much to explore!

DISCLAIMER: WE LOVE TO INDULGE. For the most part we eat very healthily and love to do so too. Healthy food in our book is by no means bland and boring, Not. At. All. Quite the opposite as you’ll see in the recipes we will share. But when I indulge we do it properly… on here you WILL see pictures of big dirty burgers piled high with gravy-laden chunks of juicy meat, double chocolate Oreo cookies slathered in even more chocolate and dollops of peanut butter swirled with Nutella spread and platters full of golden crispy seasoned fries loaded with hot spicy chili beef and smothered in ladles full of oozy, gooey melted cheese sauce … Why? Because a little bit of indulgence now and again never hurt anyone, but most of all it makes us happy and what’s life without happiness…. it’s all about the balance.
